The London Book Fair announces new partnership with The Groucho Club for 2020

The London Book Fair has today announced it will host a special ‘pop-up Groucho Club’ in 2020 as part of a new partnership with the world-renowned private members club.

The Groucho Club was founded in the 1980s by a group of publishers and other members of the creative industries and has since become a coveted and desirable haunt for the arts, literature and media community, from which it draws its exclusive membership.

The Groucho Club will bring a touch of bohemian chic to the Fair, offering publishers a friendly, relaxed space to socialise and hold private meetings.

The London Book Fair will be holding an exclusive champagne reception to launch The Groucho Club at The London Book Fair on Tuesday 10th March 2020.

The deal was brokered by Fiona McMorrough at FMcM Associates, who represent The London Book Fair Author of the Day programme, consumer-facing festival London Book & Screen Week, the CAMEO awards, and for the first time this year, the Market Focus cultural programme.

Jeff Connon, General Manager at The Groucho Club said:

“Publishing has always been a cornerstone of our membership, and partnering with The London Book Fair is a natural and exciting step. The Fair will be full of familiar faces, alongside many new ones, and we are looking forward to bringing some charming Groucho hospitality to The London Book Fair next year.”

Jacks Thomas, Director of The London Book Fair and London Book & Screen Week, said:

“This is an exciting move! We are delighted to be welcoming the Groucho Club to next year ’s The London Book Fair. Founded by eminent members of our own industry, it has become an iconic hangout for people across the creative industries and will offer an oasis of comfort and calm amidst the hustle and bustle of the show floor.”

ABOUT THE GROUCHO CLUB

The Groucho Club is a private members club founded by publishers, which opened its doors in 1985. The premise was simple; a member ’s club that was open to men and women (a truly risqué concept at the time) and would provide a modern interpretation of the traditional establishments. People in the know soon realised this was a place to see and be seen and applications for membership began to flood in.

With a membership cohort drawn exclusively from the creative industries, the Groucho Club has become synonymous with a maverick spirit, a warm welcome and service like no other. With three bars, two restaurants, private function rooms and bedrooms, as well as an extensive network of reciprocal clubs across the globe, the Groucho is a convivial home from home for its members, where the outside world is left at the door, and what happens inside stays there.
