The Indigo Press announces first title by Panashe Chigumadzi
The Indigo Press, the publishing arm of the MILD group, has today announced details of its first title to be published in June 2018. Written by novelist and journalist Panashe Chigumadzi, These Bones Will Rise Again brings together reportage, memoir and critical analysis to address the ousting of Robert Mugabe, ahead of Zimbabwe’s elections this summer. The book will be the first title in the publisher’s ‘Mood Indigo’ series: long-form essays providing literary responses to pressing social and political issues of our time.
Working with support from the wider MILD group, overseen by CEO Susie Nicklin, the book will be launched at this year’s Balham Literary Festival, with book sales handled by Dulwich Books. Panashe will speak alongside an impressive line-up of international authors announced last week including Elif Shafak, Michael Ondaatje, Hanan al-Shaykh, Tim Winton, AC Grayling, Tessa Hadley and Tim Marshall. Foreign-language rights for the book will be managed by international rights specialists The Marsh Agency.
Panashe Chigumadzi was born in Zimbabwe and raised in South Africa, where she is considered one of the most promising young writers of the ‘Born Free’ generation. Her debut novel Sweet Medicine (Blackbird Books) was published in 2015 and won the K. Sello Duiker Literary Award. She is the founding editor of Vanguard magazine, a platform for young black women coming of age in post-apartheid South Africa, and a contributing editor to Johannesburg Review of Books. Her work has featured in The Guardian, The New York Times, Washington Post, Die Ziet and Transition. These Bones Will Rise Again is her first book to be published in the UK.

Ahead its first publication, The Indigo Press has appointed DJ Segrue Ltd to handle UK sales and Orca Book Services to manage its UK distribution.
