MONOCLE expands print commitment with Spring Weekly

Interviews with Dilma Rousseff and François Ozon in Edition 2, out today

From Cannes to the Venice Biennale, from Art Basel to  Photo London –  with Europe’s fair season in full swing, the global media brand MONOCLE is publishing a  new  series of  printed newspapers to provide those travelling through Europe this spring with thought-provoking, inspirational journalism in a tactile and tantalising format.

Published every Thursday for four weeks, MONOCLE – The Spring Weekly has a focus on architecture, art and design, but also features current affairs and political stories, high-profile commentary, travel advice, and interviews.

Printed in Italy and distributed to key European cities, airports and the best kiosks across the continent, the two-section, 40-page premium-quality paper builds on last year’s summer and winter editions, published in August and December respectively.

With the Spring Weekly, MONOCLE is perfecting a publication genre of its own: a flexible, targeted newspaper product that can be published, in short runs, to tie in with specific events or seasons.

In April, the brand published a one-off newspaper to coincide with and cover the Salone Del Mobile furniture fair in Milan.

Andrew Tuck, MONOCLE’s editor, said:

“For MONOCLE – The Spring Weekly we’re tapping into our network of correspondents and contributors to unpack some of the stories behind the architecture, art and design fairs and other key events our readers care about at this time of the year. But the newspaper goes beyond that, and offers a fully rounded spring read, with reporting and commentary on the latest opportunities, new ideas, current affairs and politics.”

For the second issue, MONOCLE takes a closer look  at  Freespace, this  year's Venice  Biennale theme. As the international architecture event begins, the Spring Weekly takes a look at what to expect and what to look forward to in Venice, from the smartest country pavillions to the best architecture on show.

The Spring Weekly Edition 2 also features an interview with the former president of Brazil Dilma Rousseff. She talks about corruption allegations, the imprisonment of her political mentor Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and her country's upcoming elections. There's also a Q&A with François Ozonmaverick French film director, ahead of  the  release of  his  film  L'Amant Double (Double Lover) in early June. One of his more provocative lines: "If Hitchcock were alive, he'd be making porn movies."

Primavera Sound has become one of Europe's biggest and  best  music festivals. A  few  days  before it kicks off, MONOCLE joins the organisers in  taking a  look at  the  acts, artists and  bands that  will be making waves in Barcelona.

A MONOCLE travel correspondent visits Noli, a Ligurian coastal town to which Turin residents escape for long sunny weekends. There's a rundown of what to do, where to stay and what to eat.

MONOCLE - The Spring Weekly is available on monocle.com for £5 for each issue and £35 for a bundle of all 4 with worldwide shipping. Each issue will be  available to  buy  in  Monocle shops and on good newsstands in key cities throughout Europe, as well as distributed in 5* hotels, airline lounges and Eurostar.
