Five remarkable winners are announced tonight at the second annual Creativity Across Media: Entertainment and Originality Awards (CAMEOs), hosted at the Electric Cinema, Notting Hill. Kicking off London Book and Screen Week (LBSW, 9-15 April), the ceremony included words from LBSW 2018 Ambassador and author of smash hit Me Before You Jojo Moyes, and Beryl Richards whose new TV adaptation of Joe All Alone, book original by Joanne Nadin, premieres at 5pm tonight on CBBC.
Celebrating books at the heart of the creative industries, the awards recognise the best adaptations across TV, film, stage and game, including the new category for book to audio.

The Audible Studios production of Agatha Christie's classic Murder on the Orient Express features lead performances from Tom Conti (The Dark Knight Rises) as Hercule Poirot, Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda, Ace Ventura) and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes, V for Vendetta) plus over 20 supporting cast members, and sound effects recorded on the Orient Express itself.
Lion featured a screenplay by Luke Davies, adapted from Saroo Brierley's A Long Way Home, and was directed by Garth Davies in his feature debut. Lion starred Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire, The Newsroom), Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies, The Hours) and David Wenham (Australia, 300) and 8-year-old Sunny Pawar as young Saroo. The film had the biggest ever opening for an independent film at the Australian box office, and went on to worldwide success, including nominations for 6 Academy Awards and 2 BAFTA wins.
Professor Astro Cat's Solar System is a gamification approach to learning. The game, based on the hugely successful Professor Astro Cat book series, teaches kids about the solar system while they play. Professor Astro Cat's Solar System has won several previous awards including a WEBBY Award for Best App, Family & Kids and a Tutora Award for Best Educational App.
Around the World in 80 Days featured 109 characters, eight actors, six trains, six boats, four fights, two dances, one storm, a circus act and an elephant. The Eighty Days Productions adaptation of the Jules Verne classic has toured extensively and received critical acclaim including 5 stars from The Independent, who called it 'a magnificently preposterous romp...'.
TV mini-series The Miniaturist was adapted from Jessie Burton's novel by John Brownlow and was an immediate hit with both critics and audiences. It starred Anya Taylor-Joy (Split), Romola Garai (Atonement, Suffragette) and Alex Hassell (Two Down, Cold Mountain). The first episode was watched by over 4.5 million people (BARB consolidated ratings).
Expert judges from all sectors of the entertainment industry deliberated across each of the categories. 2018 judges include Videl Bar Kar, Julian Friedmann, Hannah Griffiths, Eric Huang, John Lomas-Bullivant, Charlotte Longstaff, Helen MacAleer (chair), Jessica Maslen, Billy McQueen, Terri Paddock, Sophie Rochester, Douglas Schatz and Hayley Steed. Judges base their decisions on criteria including, but not limited to: box office sales; review coverage; critial acclaim; social media profile; industry prize nominations and more.
The CAMEO Award ceremony marks the start of this year’s London Book & Screen Week (9 - 15 April 2018), kick-starting the seven day series of events celebrating books and the films, TV programmes and virtual worlds they inspire.
