New Book to Audio category announced as CAMEO Awards return for second year

London Book & Screen Week 2018 Ambassador Jojo Moyes, who was shortlisted in 2017, will present the 2018 CAMEO awards. Entries close 5th February 2018.

Following their success in 2017, London Book & Screen Week and the Publishers Association have today announced the  return of  the Creativity Across Media: Entertainment and Originality Awards (CAMEOs), which are now open for entries. Celebrating books at the heart of the creative industries, the  awards  recognise the best adaptations across TV, film, stage and game, and  will  this year introduce a new category for audio

Entries are open to any individual or organisation in the UK who has successfully transformed a book IP into another format. Judges will be looking for demonstration of both quality and success from entries, including, but not limited to: box office ticket sales; reviews; press coverage; critical acclaim; social media profile; peer-to-peer recommendation, and industry prize nominations.

In a world where stories are being consumed in so many different forms, the CAMEOs will honour the adaptations that have made the most impact in the last calendar year, across five categories:

•                 Book to Film Award
•                 Book to Game Award (inclusive of apps and entertainment)
•                 Book to Stage Award
•                 Book to TV Award
•                 Book to Audio Award (new)

Expert judges from all sectors of the entertainment industry will deliberate across each of the categories. 2018 judges include Charlotte Longstaff of Ambassador Group (Book to Stage), John Lomas- Bullivant of Kickback Media (Book to TV) and Liz Rosenthall of Power to the Pixel (Book to Game).

The CAMEO Awards will coincide with this year’s London Book & Screen Week (9 - 15 April 2018), kick- starting the seven day series of events celebrating books and the films, TV programmes and virtual worlds they inspire.

Shortlists will be  announced in  March, with the  winner being announced at  a  special ceremony held  in Soho House on Monday, 9th April 2018.

Submissions are open online now. For further information, and to enter, please visit http://www.londonbookandscreenweek.co.uk/cameo-awards/

Jacks Thomas, Director of The London Book Fair and London Book & Screen Week, says:

“We are delighted to announce the return of the CAMEO Awards for their second year. From The Handmaid's Tale, to Hamilton and Paddington, so many of this year’s big success stories have derived from book adaptations, showing their continued value throughout the entertainment industry. Audio is an important part of this entertainment mix as is evident from the growth of the audiobook market, up 28% in 2016 alone, so it seems natural that 2018 should also recognise achievements in this dynamic new space. The CAMEOs – with the book firmly at the heart – will identify the inspiring storytellers who bring to life the most innovative, creative and successful film, games, TV, stage and audio adaptations.”
